Michael Moore and all those who see this movie should be congratulated for resisting partisan attempts to enforce censorship. This movie does indeed reveal information that reactionary interests would rather keep hidden, especially about the war in Iraq. Some important details are also discussed regarding the events of 9/11. Yet there are many important questions about the events of that day which Fahrenheit 9/11 fails to ask. The movie's analysis may in-fact direct viewers' anger at the wrong targets.
In the context of a cover-up, a "limited hangout' 'means the release of previously hidden information while the crucial elements of a crime remain concealed. Often a "limited hangout" is created to direct suspicion at suspects other than the crime's key perpetrators and planners. While Michael Moore vigorously denounces the Bush Administration over its failure to prevent the 9/11/2001 attacks and particularly exposes top Bush Administration ties to Saudi interests, he accepts at face value the official story- an unbelievable scenario that insists the attacks were planned and carried out by al Qaeda, under the leadership of Osama bin Laden- that 19 hijackers, 15 of whom were Saudi citizens, took over 4 airliners: and that these flight school novices who were either relatively inexperienced or completely incompetent as commercial aircraft pilots flew one airliner into the World Trade Center's North Tower, one into the South Tower, and one into the Pentagon (at a height about three feet above the Pentagon's ground floor) before a fourth airliner crashed into a western Pennsylvania field.
As the improbabilities listed above suggest, the official story is full of holes and begs for a credible, unbiased investigation. Within three weeks after 9/11, mass media such as the BBC revealed that several of the alleged hijackers were both alive and demanding to be exonerated. Osama bin Laden has never confessed to the attacks (phony confession video and audio tapes to the contrary). Rather he has denied responsibility. In fact, al Qaeda is known to be a CIA-controlled operation whose U.S. ties were still in force into 2001.
Even more startling is the physical evidence regarding the attack sites. The World Trade Center towers could not have been brought down solely by either the impact of plane collisions or the ensuing fires, or even by the combination of both. Sites containing analyses of that evidence are listed at the end of this leaflet. For one glaring anomaly, consider that the South Tower was hit 16 minutes after the strike to the North Tower, and was hit much less directly. Yet, somehow, the South Tower fell 30 minutes before the North Tower.

Videos of the collapses show pieces of pulverized rubble ejected into thin air beside each of the towers falling at the same rate as the material that had to pass through the horizontal steel and concrete of each floor, as well as through the 47 central steel columns in each tower. How? There had to be controlled demolition of the buildings' primary structural components. The basic laws of physics cannot be suspended by hijackers in airplanes. Even we Americans aren't that dumb.

At 5:20 p.m. on 9/11 Building 7 of the WTC collapsed in the straight down symmetry of a classic demolition; WTC7 was not hit by a plane, nor did it experience any major damage from falling rubble or internal fire. The initial damage to the Pentagon's west wall on 9/11 was much too small in width and height to have been made by the Boeing 757-200 (AA Flight 77) that allegedly hit the building. Nor is there any verifiable wreckage of this specific American Airlines jet in any photos of the impact area at the Pentagon. Strangely, United Airlines Flight 93, another Boeing 757-200 left wreckage strewn along an 8-mile stretch in Pennsylvania, an unmistakable sign that it was shot down and exploded in mid air, discharging an expansive wake of debris before it finally crashed.
Fahrenheit 9/11 presses hard on the Bush Administration's failure to heed warnings about attacks, presenting essentially the same set of cover-ups recently announced by the now concluded and U.S. government controlled "Independent Commission On The 11 September 2001 Attacks On America." Moore's message hits hard on the question of investigating possible Saudi ties to those crimes. But it completely skirts the huge holes that are outlined above, and it doesn't even begin to name those officials at the highest levels of our own government who must have been principal to the day's horrific crimes: Were those within the U.S. Armed Forces who failed to respond to the attacks following directives from higher up the chain of command? And what sort of sophisticated covert U.S. organization could arrange and carry off the demolitions of the three World Trade Center Buildings?
Thus, through its "limited hangout," Fahrenheit 9/11 promotes a kind of second-line official story, one that blames the Bush Administration and Saudi Arabia while clinging to a legend of absurdly impossible perpetrators for the 9/11 attacks.
We must look much deeper within ourselves if we are to liberate the world from the "endless war" that both Democrats and Republicans have endorsed. Freedom is not a right but a fearful responsibility we all must defend. Benjamin Franklin said it well, "They that give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." The greatest tribute to the dead is not our fear, but the courage to take up the cause of freedom and demand the truth.
