Osama bin Laden Mars Royal Birthday Bash
DEREK BROWN / Guardian Weekly v.169, n.1, 26jnu03
Original title Intruder Mars Royal Birthday Bash
Prince William, second in line to the throne and the most slobbered-over young person in the tabloids last week, has turned 21. There was a semi-serious side to the birthday celebrations. A lavish party at Windsor castle was interrupted by a man dressed as Osama bin Laden. Aaron Barschak, a standup comedian who performs as the "Comedy Terrorist ; apparently gate-crashed with disturbing ease. He took the microphone from the prince just as he was thanking his grandmother, the Queen, and his father, the Prince of Wales, for their birthday wishes. After mumbling a few words, the unwelcome guest wandered off into the castle grounds, where he was rather belatedly arrested. Scotland Yard has already produced a preliminary report into the incident and apologised to the royal family for the security lapse. Meanwhile Mr Barschak has been revelling in his exploit and telling interviewers how "unbelievably simple" it was to breach the castle's security. p.8 |
