Teratogens

Chemicals identified as having teratogenic properties
in Sax's Dangerous Properties of Industrial Chemicals
7th edition (John Wiley & Sons) as of 14nov01

These materials and substances are given as having teratogenic properties by the Seventh Edition of "Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials", Ed. Sax & Lewis.  The Ninth Edition is available for $499 US from OEM PRESS.   The eighth or ninth editions may be available in various campus libraries as well.

Keep in mind that there are MANY common lab chemicals whose properties have not been fully investigated, and that this list is not necessarily inclusive of all substances and mixtures that could have undesirable effects on human reproduction and reproductive organs.  On the other hand, the presence of any of these or other teratogenic materials in your lab does not mean that you have been exposed, nor that you are likely to experience teratogenic or embryotxic effects.   ALL chemicals can be handled safely; some simply require more care in handling than others.  Consult the MSDS sources given in REM's web site, and call Lila Albin or Stephanie Rainey if you can't find an MSDS for the item for which you're looking.
