EPA Office of Pesticide Programs Lists of Other (Inert) Pesticide Ingredients Rev.12jun01 This file resides at wwww.mindfully.org Complete Alphabetical List of all "inert" or "other ingredients" found in pesticide products registered by EPA. This PDF file contains the name, CAS number, and List category for each chemical. (Some chemicals do not fall into a List category.) It is 9,751KB and 52 pages long. A spreadsheet is also available in Excel 2.1 format and should be easily importable into most spreadsheet and database programs in use today. Categorized Lists List 1 - There are currently approximately 160 products that contain one of eight remaining List 1 inert ingredients. In response to data call in notices (DCIs), data have been submitted or are being generated to support the continued use of six of the remaining List 1 inert ingredients (diethylhexyl phthalate, dioctyl adipate, isophorone, nonylphenol, phenol and Rhodamine B). The use of the seventh remaining List 1 inert ingredient, formaldehyde, is expected to cease once the Registration Eligibility Document for formaldehyde as an active ingredient is issued. The use of the eighth remaining List 1 inert ingredient, Malachite Green, will cease once existing stocks of pesticides containing it are depleted. List 2 - Initially, 64 inerts were classified as List 2 and were present in over 9,000 products. Some of these inerts are now no longer used in pesticide products. The Agency will continue to utilize this process whenever possible to reduce the number of List 2 inerts. In addition, the Agency will evaluate available data in order to initiate action to either reclassify to Lists 1 or 4 or to issue DCIs for the remaining List 2 inerts. List 3 - (This list is in PDF format, which requires the Acrobat Reader it is 6,964 KB) There are approximately 1500 inert ingredients in this list. OPP has contracted OPPT's Structure Activity Team (SAT) to prepare toxicological and ecological assessments for these inerts. These assessments are nearly complete and will be used to help support reclassification determinations. In 1995, the Agency reclassified approximately 150 List 3 inerts to List 4B (60 FR 35396) . The Agency has drafted a second FR Notice proposing reclassification of an additional 80 or so List 3 inerts to List 4B. The Agency has also identified a number of List 3 inerts that are no longer used in pesticide products. These inerts will be removed from the List of Inert Ingredients; associated tolerance exemptions will also be revoked. Any proposed future use of these inert ingredients will be subject to same data requirements as for new inert ingredients. List 4 - In 1989, List 4 was subdivided into List 4A (Inerts generally regarded as safe, i.e., corn cobs and cookie crumbs) and List 4B (Inerts which have sufficient data to substantiate they can be used safely in pesticide products) When an inert reaches List 4B, no further regulatory action is anticipated.
