Evansville Courier & Press (IN) 7aug01

Officials at GE Plastics at Mount Vernon, Ind., are investigating what caused the release of 1,100 pounds of methylene chloride gas from its Lexan Resin plant at about 7:45 a.m. Monday.

The release caused no off-site impact, said Kimberly Derk, company spokeswoman. It was reported immediately to local and state regulatory officials.

Methylene chloride is suspected to cause cancer in humans, according to the federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration.
