DETROIT — As part of the overall tentative agreement with GM on health care announced Oct. 17, the UAW today initiated legal action in federal court in Detroit, seeking court approval for the terms of the settlement.
The UAW initiated the proceedings today in order to begin the court approval process and will work to expedite those proceedings.
The language of the tentative agreement is being finalized, and the UAW is in the process of briefing local union leaders and retiree groups on the proposed changes. Details will not be released until that process is complete.
In today's filing, the UAW informed the court that it expects a proposed settlement will be available for review by all of the affected retirees and the court in the near future.
