THE DISPOSSESSED:
Living With Chemical Sensitivities
A book by Rhonda Zwillinger

[ Artist's Statement | About Us | Brief Overview of MCS | Order Info ]

ROBERTA S. (b. 1944)
Tucson, Arizona

"I was injured as a child. My father worked in a factory mixing chemicals to make plastics for electrical fuse boxes. The chemicals were all over the clothes he wore at home and in the empty chemical barrels that I played with. For the past 13 years I have lived in my car traveling from place to place looking for a "safe" house so I can be indoors. I am so worn out I think I will die soon."

MARY S. (b. 1954) BABY KITT (b. 1991)
Tucson, Arizona

"I grew up on a ranch in Tucson. My hobby used to be body building. I decided to have silicone breast implants but shortly afterwards began to feel sick and weak. The many doctors I visited told me there was no scientific evidence to indicate that it was the breast implants and told me to go ahead and nurse the baby. Baby Kitt vomited after he was nursed and was sick all the time. By the time I finally convinced a doctor to remove the implants, Kitt and myself were severely injured with MCS and had to move to the desert living in this home-made tent. I cannot tolerate building materials, electricity and pesticides. The desert where Baby Kitt and I live will be leveled for a golf course making us homeless."
