New Designation for Terror Deaths
NY Times 10sep02
In health statistics, those killed or hurt in the Sept. 11 attacks were counted as victims of homicide or attempted homicide, indistinguishable from other murders. On Oct. 1, the National Center for Health Statistics will begin using new classifications for terrorism-related deaths and injuries.
The classifications are divided by the type of attack, like destruction of an airplane, firearms, a biological weapon or a nuclear bomb.
There is also a new death category for suicide terrorists.
The classifications will only be used for attacks designated as terrorism by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
