EPA To Reregister Syngenta Bt Corn

Dow Jones Newswires 16oct01

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved the reregistration of Syngenta AG's genetically modified Bt corn with YieldGuard insect protection after a two-year environmental safety review.

In a press release Tuesday, the company said the seven-year approval gives U.S. corn growers continued access to hybrid plants that are resistant to crop pests and produce higher yields.

Syngenta was formed last November by the merger of Novartis Agribusiness and Zeneca Agrochemicals. YieldGuard is a registered trademark of Monsanto Co.
