Neogen Licenses Monsanto Technologies

Dow Jones Newswires 12apr01

LANSING, Mich. -- Neogen Corp. (NEOG) signed a non-exclusive agreement to license Monsanto Co.'s (MON) technology to develop tests for the rapid detection of genetically enhanced grains.

In a press release Thursday, Neogen said it will market the tests, which will let grain distributors and processors identify grain developed through Monsanto's agricultural biotechnology.

Neogen plans to develop a diagnostic test to detect the presence of the Roundup Ready herbicide resistance trait developed by Monsanto.

The herbicide resistance has been incorporated into soybean seed used worldwide.

The licensing agreement also includes the development of tests to detect plant proteins developed for corn, cotton and canola.
