Albania Bans GMOs

Agriculture and Food Commission in Albanian Parliament Votes for 5 Year Ban of GMOs

Today the Commission of Agriculture and Food in Albanian Parliament voted for ban of GMOs for a 5 year period and appointed the Ministry of Environment to prepare the all legal framework for GMOs during such period. This decision was strongly influenced by environmetal NGOs in Albania (24 environmental NGO-s signed for "Albania GMOs free country), scientists and academicians (45 scientists and academicians signed an open letter to Parliament for GMOs ban in Albania), Albanian Consumer Association and Organic Agriculture Association.
